Terms of Service

By using TokenBoards ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service. You must be old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live to buy Pro. The Service is meant for adults: therapists, teachers, caregivers and other professionals. It is not directed at children.

TokenBoards is a web-based tool for making visual supports: token boards, choice boards, target boards, first/then boards, core boards and visual schedules. You can print them, save them as PDFs, share them by link, and use some of them on a screen. It can be installed on a device as an app and used offline in part. The Service is provided "as is", and we may improve or change it over time.

The Service has a free tier and a paid Pro tier. Free: all board types, the symbol library, your own pictures, printing and saving a PDF (with a small watermark), 3 boards saved in your browser on your device, 3 active share links that expire after 30 days, a reward video or GIF on 1 board of your choice, and 10 photo searches a day. Pro adds saving boards to your account so you can open them on any device, printing and PDFs without the watermark, emailing a board as a PDF, playing a YouTube video when a reward is earned, share links that do not expire (which you can update in place), a reward video or GIF on every board, and unlimited photo search, subject to fair use. What is in each tier can change over time.

You can use the Free tier without an account. Pro uses a sign-in link we email you, with no password. Pro belongs to one person and is tied to the email address you signed up with. Please keep your sign-in link private and don't share or resell your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, contact us.

Pro is sold as a monthly or a yearly subscription, and payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. The price you see at checkout is the price for that period. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Pro, then Manage subscription. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for, and you are not charged again. If we change a price, the new price applies from your next renewal and not to a period you have already paid for. Plans bought earlier on different terms, such as a one-time payment, keep the terms they were bought under.

Pro purchases are generally non-refundable. If a technical problem stops you from using Pro features, contact us within 30 days of purchase and we will refund you in full.

You keep all rights to the boards you make and the images you upload. By uploading images, you confirm you have the right to use them. You give us permission to store your content and show it to the people you choose, only as needed to run the Service: saving it to your account, showing it on a share link you create, emailing it where you ask, and keeping it safe. Images you upload and boards you make stay in your browser unless you save a board to your Pro account, email it, or create a share link. In those cases the board, including its images, is stored on our servers. See the Privacy Policy for details.

A share link lets anyone who has it view, print and copy the board. Treat a link like a public page: don't share it with people you wouldn't show the board to, and don't put private information on a board you share. Free links stop working after 30 days. Pro links don't expire. A QR code you add to a printed board opens a link of its own: it works the same way, does not count toward your share links, and for a free account stays active as long as it is scanned at least every 90 days. Anyone who scans the code can view the board. You can delete a link, and the board stored for it, at any time from the Share window. Links you made while on Pro keep working if Pro ends, and you will need to delete some before you can make new free links if you are over the free limit.

Symbols in our library are made by others and shared under Creative Commons licenses. They are credited on our Credits page, and changed copies stay under the same license. Photos from photo search come from Pixabay and are subject to Pixabay's license. Most are free for commercial and non-commercial use, but please check the license for any image you use in a professional setting. Reward GIFs come from GIPHY and reward videos from YouTube, and belong to their creators and are subject to their terms. The TokenBoards name, logo and the design of the site belong to us. Nothing here gives you the right to use them to suggest a connection with us.

You agree not to: - Use the Service for any illegal purpose - Get around rate limits, access controls or paid features without paying - Upload images that are illegal, obscene or that break someone else's rights - Reverse engineer, scrape or attack the Service or its API - Share, resell or distribute your Pro account or sign-in link - Use the Service to harass, harm or deceive anyone

Boards often describe real children and adults. Please keep private details off the boards you save to your account, share by link or email. That means full names, photos, diagnoses, school or medical record numbers, and anything else that could identify a learner and that you wouldn't want a stranger to see. A first name or a nickname is usually enough. TokenBoards is not designed to hold protected health information or education records, and you should not enter them. You are responsible for following the privacy rules that apply to you and your learners, such as your employer's policies and laws like HIPAA or FERPA where they apply.

TokenBoards is a tool. It is not medical, behavioral or educational advice, and it is not a substitute for clinical training, supervision or professional judgment. You decide whether and how to use a board with a learner. Boards you make are only as suitable as the choices you put into them.

We work to keep the Service running, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. Features that need a connection (photo and GIF search, sharing, email, saving to your account) won't work offline. We may change, add or remove features.

You can stop using the Service at any time. If you want your account and saved boards deleted, email us and we will do it. If Pro ends, boards saved to your account are kept but hidden. They come back if you start Pro again. Boards saved on your device stay on your device. We may suspend or end access if someone breaks these terms or misuses the Service.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT IT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SUITABLE FOR ANY PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TOKENBOARDS AND ITS OPERATORS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some places don't allow these limits. Where that is so, they apply only as far as the law permits.

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and if the change is significant we will say so on the site. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the new terms.
