Dinosaur Token Board

A dinosaur token board turns a favorite interest into the thing that makes the board worth using. Each token is a dinosaur picture to cut out and stick on the board. Use it with children who talk about dinosaurs all day, at home, in class or in therapy.

Free to print with no account. The customized board also runs on a tablet in a session.

About this template

Interest-based themes are popular because a token the learner already likes feels like part of the game, not a chore. The dinosaur here is a plain picture with no story attached, so you can add your own: the dinosaurs are going home to their cave, or the herd is almost complete.

How to use it

  1. Print the PDF and cut out the five dinosaur tokens, then add Velcro to the tokens and to each spot on the board.
  2. Write the reward in the box at the top, or draw it. A dinosaur-themed reward such as a dinosaur book or toy can make the board even more exciting.
  3. Give a dinosaur token each time the learner shows the skill you are teaching, and say what they did in a few words.
  4. Count the dinosaurs together as they go on the board, which makes the wait easier to understand.

Make it yours

  • Customize the board to change the dinosaur color, the number of tokens or the reward picture.
  • Use a photo of the learner's own toy dinosaur as the reward.
  • Turn the board into a story by naming each dinosaur and giving them a place to go when the row is full.
  • Use the tablet version in a session, where each tap adds a dinosaur to the row.

Questions

Do the dinosaurs have to be the reward?

No. The dinosaurs are the tokens, and the reward is whatever you write in the top box. Many learners like a reward from the same theme, but it is your choice.

Why use a theme at all?

A theme the learner already enjoys can make a board more appealing, so they are more likely to look at it. Whether it works is something to watch for each learner.

Can I use a different animal or vehicle?

Yes. Customize the board and pick from the theme library, which includes animals, vehicles, sports and play themes.
